This next feature is somewhat of a special one. If you’re into design, art or fashion (basically anything creative) you may have heard of this next interviewee. I’ve been following them since I started out and if you don’t know them you’re in for an absolute treat…

DEER BRAINS is a creative website. That much is certain. To try and describe the site further has so far proven most difficult so I’ll just let the feature try and elucidate! I sat down with DB founder and blogger Stephanie to find out more…
Who/ what is DEER BRAINS? DEER BRAINS is a blog full of creative happenings, reviews, interviews and hype run by myself and mainly Tom. The rest of the DB family are Sean, who is good for all the HTML analytic queries, and Sofi – who is good for bringing the fashion in.
We also have a contributor called Rich who is bringing us some good BMX and photography pieces.
What got you into blogging? I’ve been geeking out since I was 13. I’ve had a Livejournal since then and have been involved in communities and forums so I’ve seen alot of blogs and websites develop over the years, so I guess it just happened naturally.
What does/ will make your website stand out and distinguish itself from the rest of the UK culture/ design/ art sites around these days? I think because we provide alot of different areas of art, design, photography, fashion etc. It show cases a lot of things that everyone can love… I really admire the blogs out there that are solidly dedicated to Fashion or Art. I think we have a strong balance of all things that we just love and hope that people will too.
Who/ what inspires you in your work? Dash Snow, Alice In Wonderland, No Doubt, typography, my friends, nature… Most things really – I’m that kind of person who could turn dog sh!t into an art piece. I really admire Damien Hirst, he’s pretty cool.

What’s your take on the UK design/ art/ culture scene(s) at the moment? The design scene at the moment is pretty good, it’s always good to see talented new work emerging.
I think you just have to filter out the copycats and you can tell who has taken what from who – it’s actually quite funny. I won’t mention any names but I digged one out tonight and it was just a dreadful rip off.
Where do you see you and DEER BRAINS being in 5 years time? As a unit? I find this very hard to answer as life is constantly moving and growing but I would love myself and DEER BRAINS to still be online and still be going.
Like I’ve said before; myself and the others do this for the love and excitement of everything we find… If we make money from this than brilliant if not oh well.
Where can people go to support DEER BRAINS? There’s always the blog as one, but we are bringing out some pin badges soon. We also have had some ideas for doing some shirts with some talented designers but that’s way off into the future.

Shoutouts I honestly can’t thank and love the people who have supported both DEER BRAINS and my own personal life enough… Yes, I’m a mega sap!
That’s the first of the new features involving people other than the “brains behind the brand” usually featured here at FatKidOnFire HQ. Hopefully this has given you a little bit of insight into Steph’s creative mind and will have gotten you onto the joys that is DEER BRAINS!
