After a stack of makeitgood x FatKidOnFire features dropped yesterday, we thought we might as well continue the roll we’re on here at FatKidOnFire HQ and launch another one. Except this one’s rather special… makeitgood and FatKidOnFire are proud to release their first exclusive minimix from none other than West London’s Soap Dodgers. These boys (15MIL AKA Jamie and 4B2 AKA Max) have only just started out but having just dropped a GetDarker TV live mix you know they mean business! Peep the interview and exclusive minimix below…
Find out more after the jump
What made you start producing dubstep? 4B2: Just constantly listening to the music. I’d been producing House for years anyway and spent about a year producing bits of grime so once I got into dubstep it was just the next step to take.
15MIL: Yeah and seeing the reaction the music got in raves, madness.
How old were you both when you first realised you wanted to do it? 4B2: As long as I can remember really. Weve always been involved with and making music, throwing stuff back and fourth over MSN, making tunes on Music Maker 2000. Would still use that if I could; it was the one!
15MIL: Around 17/18, started getting into the sound properly. Max had the decks so I started rinsing any little money I had on vinyls and learnt to mix.
Best set you’ve played so far has been? Why? Both: Got to be Rub a Dubstep at Brixton Music Bar; the mixer blew in the first room so we had to play in the bar area with one monitor and a busted up mixer… and it still went off.
Turntables or CDJs? 15MIL: I learned using vinyl, but for me CDs are the way forward.
4B2: Well I have both and would use turntables if vinyl wasn’t so
expensive. CDs have just made things much more accessible so I just get most of my stuff on digital now.
What music are you listening to at the moment? 15MIL: Whatever really, if I like it I’ll listen to it. But right now its mostly dubstep.
4B2: at the minute, just dubstep… and some Cafe Del Mar.
You’re set to play Dubfreaks Takeover #003 [the night before FatKidOnFire Party #1] in a few weeks, how are you guys feeling about playing with such a huge line up? 15MIL: obviously it’s a big look for us being on a line up like that, just looking forward to playing.
4B2: Excited more than anything. We just want to get out and play as much as possible. I don’t think either of us would worry about playing with any one or anywhere we just want to be out there doing it.
Who’s the best artist you’ve played alongside? Both: At GetDarker; Cotti, Crazy D, Darkside, Cyrus… Best so far.
Do you think you will stick to producing dubstep, or will you try and mix it up? 15MIL: I reckon so yeah, for now. There’s no point in switching up when we’re moving pretty steadily where we are.
4B2: Yeah stick to it.
Any EP’s or albums we can look forward to hearing? Both: theres gonna be stuff coming…
Any advice to upcoming producers/Djs and new talent? 15MIL: Don’t waste yourself. Unless you’re dedicated to the fullest don’t bother, too many people are looking for shortcuts. Network.Network.Network.
4B2: If you’re going to do it then put everything into it. Money for the stuff you’re going to need and time to learn everything that needs to be learnt to get anywhere, and obviously enjoy it.
You’ve had the words, now get down to the music. This exclusive minimix is murky. The Soap Dodgers live up to expectations and deliver one of the best 20 minutes of audio we’ve heard in a long time. Free download below. Huge big ups to 15MIL and 4B2!
