Lawrence.B - FKOF001

As things slowly start to pick up speed towards FKOF2.0, I figured it was time to start expanding the remit of the sounds we cover here at FatKidOnFire. So here’s the first part of that expansion…

A new series, starting to cover sounds other than the strict 140 dubstep (and variants of that) I’ve written about and supported over the past two odd years. FKOF00 (or until I can think of a more imaginative title) – with a mix and feature a month. 001 kicks things off with long-time FKOF fam Lawrence; who’s changed things up with the sounds he makes. His more recent stuff caught my ear a while back, so here we are…

How long have you been producing? What sounds have you produced in the past? I produce dubstep alongside the things I make under this alias, but overall have been producing for nearly three years!

How would you decribe your own music in five words? Ambient, smooth, emotive, bassy and fresh.

What’s the state of your technical set up? I genuinely have no technical set up at all really these days! I produce from FL Studio on my laptop and have some
Numark monitors I use (not the best but they do the job)!

I have a midi keyboard too which I use now and then – I’m also planning on getting a launchpad in the next few weeks to try help making some fresh sounds.

If you could collaborate with another artist in your genre who would it be? I am a massive fan of Kyson, as you can see from the mix. He brings such an amazing vibe to his tunes and I would love to be able to work with him one day!

Can you suggest some other artists we should check out? Kyson, Boddika, Kastle, Maribou State, Jamie XX. All amazing artists – and a few different sounds too.

Difficult question of the day. Is the internet killing the music industry? The internet in certain aspects is really hindering the music business. Saying that, the insane amount of promotion available on the internet is unavoidable, so I’d have to say that in regard to promotion for artists, it is most certainly a good thing. Mixed bag!

Any shoutouts?
Shoutouts to Harriet, Za, Ross, Mitch, Segal, Wil and Sash!

We kept the words short and sweet, and Lawrence has kept the mix fairly to standard as well. 25:25, 11 tracks and a whole lot of awesome music. The mix is a free download as always – let us know if you’re feeling it!

On a side note, as I’ve been doing with some of the other long-term series here on FKOF, I’ll be sharing the duties with the new series, so if you’re a producer or label pushing these sorts of sounds drop me or Lawrence an email.

We’ve potentially got 002 lined up but we’d love to hear from you!
