Thought & Process x FatKidOnFire

[Artist Highlight]

It’s been a long-term goal of mine, for some time now, that one day (hopefully not in the too distant future) that FatKidOnFire can become a one-stop-shop for all things bass music(/ streetwear/ etc and so on).

Whilst the site’s gained the majority of its following through the 140 sounds of the deep and dark (and quite possibly the ridiculous number of FKOF frees we’ve had this year), there’s been a gradual but intended move into other areas from the ‘bass music’ soundscape.

We had a feature with original DnB don Axon back in May – and whilst that didn’t bring in a deluge of similar producers or sounds, I’m stoked to welcome the latest DnB interviewees to FKOF in the form of Houston’s Thought & Process

Easy guys, how are you? Houston treating you both well? We’re great man, very satisfied with how things have been going as of late. The great city of Houston has been brilliant as well. Great to be back doing a feature with you guys though!

It’s been a long, long while since you first featured on MIG x FKOF. What’s changed for you since then? Why the rebrand and movement away from your original sound? You’re absolutely right on that man, it’s been ages. I actually re-discovered that interview a few weeks ago and the differences between us then and now are vast for sure. We’ve become more musically conscious, more rehearsed in our knowledge of the vastly expanding realm of EDM, more honed in our own sound and honestly more versatile in the way that we produce tracks. I think it was all these developments that eventually led to our rebrand as Thought & Process.

While DAM was a huge accomplishment for us and we’re very proud with what we did with it, we had ourselves limited… And that would eventually lead to each of us growing stale creatively. Unfortunately, with how quickly EDM evolves, there’s no room for that. So we went off, did our own thing, then Tyler and I linked up and decided to come back together, but this time, upping the intensity, and BPM as well and start making drum and bass.

Other than the recent remix EP you were part of (that instigated our catch up with you both), what have you got planned for 2013? What should we be looking out for? Well, we’ve just confirmed our first release on Noctem Audio entitled ‘Wookology’, as well as another EP we’ve kept very secretive, entitled ‘Synapse Vol. 1’. Other than that, details are pretty exclusive, but we have some big things in mind don’t you worry.

I’ve heard on the grapevine you’ve got your debut release as Thought & Process lined up for next year. What can you tell us about that? ‘Wookology’ will be out next year under Noctem Audio and will be highlighting a few of our signature sounds. We have the title track ‘Wookology’, which combines a blend of neurofunk and all out 85 BPM drumstep. The second track is entitled ‘Faceroll’, which is more our signature style of energetic liquid drum and bass. I feel the EP will really show our versatility and will hopefully impress our listeners!

I know you’ve moved out of the dubstep sound, but can you name three dubstep artists we should all be following? If not, which DnB dubs are setting off the dances these days? Oh absolutely! If I could name three dubstep artists, I’d stick to our good friend, and former colleague Kinetic, who has been bringing some absolute heat lately, Clicks & Whistles and Truth. I love all three of those guys.

For drum and bass, I’d point to Enei, Calyx & Teebee and The Prototypes. Enei’s album ‘Machines‘ is absolute fire, and I’ve had it on repeat for about a week.

Finally, any shoutouts? Big ups to you both! First and foremost, big up to our fans, as well as Noctem Audio, you guys at FKOF and MakeItGood, Kinetic, Starfaux, Stefan Jobe,, Frenzi for putting on the drum and bass sound in our lovely city, the Gritsy crew, Electric Joy Ride, Brenton Mattheus, Moiez, Pistol Shrimp, Galaski, Brody Lienhart and everybody we collaborate with on a daily basis. I know I’m forgetting someone, but seriously these guys have been making it happen for us.

The T&P boys first hit me up a few weeks (maybe months?) back because they had a tune going out on a free download from Electric Joy Ride – but because of my schedule longness and the time of year we’ve only got around to getting this feature up now. So apologies to T&P and here’s a bump on the ‘Fall Down Remixes EP’! Download the Thought & Process remix here.

As if the above free EP wasn’t enough, Jacob and Tyler put together a DnB mix for FKOF. Free download and the usual below…
