Another quick update…

Another quick update…

After last week’s quick update (I’m still looking for new contributors to FKOF by the way!), I thought it might be a good idea to give you guys another short heads up about what’s going on behind the scenes here at FatKidOnFire.

First up, the FKOF website is now part of the Cloudflare community. I discovered these guys last week and was pretty impressed with the wizardry the platform offers (in terms of both increasing the FKOF website’s performance/ load times and protecting the site from any malicious visitors as shown above). Or as Cloudflare puts it:

On average, a website on CloudFlare
– loads twice as fast
– uses 60% less bandwidth
– has 65% fewer requests
– is way more secure

All for free!

…Which should work out well for you guys! I also like the idea of Cloudflare as limiting the bandwidth should improve the experience for those of you accessing FKOF on mobile devices; making load times a bit quicker (which should reduce any data costs you may incur by visiting the site).

If there’s any unexpected downtime over the next few days (which I’m hoping there won’t be) it may be while the servers propagate over to the Cloudflare platform – but if things do go down I’ll update the Facebook and Twitter accounts to let you know what’s going on.

I also recently installed a new comment system courtesy of the amazing team at Livefyre. The standard WordPress plugins for comments are less than brilliant in my opinion so I was blown away when I discovered Livefyre and the options the platform gives you guys. Real-time comment updates, multiple social platform sign-ins, mobile optimisation and easy comment moderation (from my end) are just a few of the reasons why I chose to use Livefyre – and the install process was as easy as two clicks. Oh, and like Cloudflare, Livefyre is free. Super awesome!

So you can access the site quicker, the site’s safer and you can enjoy an easy-to-use comment platform from any social network of your choice. Which is wicked. Thanks Cloudflare and Livefyre!

If you know of any other features I can add to the site (to make your lives a bit easier), feel free to let me know in the comments below.

Peace, love and respect.
