FatKidOnFire’s Japanese contributor sends in his second post for this week; with Brandon’s first being the short write-up on the racing scene he’s witnessed. Today sees us take a trip over to one of the many shopping districts on Okinawa with Brandon visiting one of his favourite streetwear and hip-hop shops and giving us his first shop profile…
Nestled in the heart of Mihama, a popular shopping district of Okinawa, Japan, is a store that is obsessed with hip-hop. The latest and greatest underground brands can be found there along with the more popular streetwear brands. On the regular, the store remains stocked with DISIZIT! Clothing, Famous Stars and Straps, 10 Deep and Rocawear, to name a few. Along with an impressive selection of clothing, Deep Blue keeps hip-hop heads across Okinawa up to date with mixtapes and DVDs of well known hip-hop artists and even the aspiring.
DJ Dee, the proprietor, can be spotted regularly at different venues spinning 90’s hip-hop, standing by, what he believes to be, the golden age of hip-hop. He lives the life in every single aspect. It isn’t about the money, it isn’t about the notoriety, it’s only about style and music. According to Dee, the store is always open to new brands and new music. Deep Blue has an open door policy about promoting artists, venues or special events. The only stipulation is that it needs to be connected to hip-hop.
