All’s been a bit quiet from FatKidOnFire HQ over the past month – fear not as we’re working tirelessly behind the scenes on some seriously exciting projects (did someone say a FKOF web app, our first international dubstep event and even a collab magazine?) so please bear with us during the quiet time!
As it happens, we’ve a few new posts lined up for tonight. There’s the ‘Out and About…’ update below and a ‘New Music…’ post lined up later on. We’ve got loads of new MakeItGood features lined up for the next ten days as well as a few interviews with streetwear brands (and other cool people). Stay locked as always!
First off, we’re stoked to see the return of the now infamous Audio dOughnuts outfit with another of their ‘Presents’ events. Next Friday (17/06/11) sees the AD gang put on a huge line up at Crucifix Lane (formerly Counter Culture). Peep the press release below, find the event on Facebook and we’ll see you on the dancefloor. This night promises to be massive – so do not sleep and get your tickets now!
Joining – if not outshining – the lengthy list of legends that have already shaken the foundations of Crucifix Lane is undoubtedly one of the most iconic names in the scene; named by Skream & Benga as a ‘veteran’, Audio Doughnuts are proud to present 2-Step & Garage legend Zed Bias aka Maddslinky. Joining this inimitable don on the upper echelons of the night’s expansive line-up is the the DJ’s DJ, the founder of Hessle Audio – Ben UFO.? As if that wasn’t enough they’ll be joined by Fantastic Mr Fox of Hemlock Recordings – the deserved winner of XLR8R’s Best Label award in 2010 and Rinse FM’s ‘Grimey Breakfast’ presenter and all-round dancefloor king Scratcha DVA. In addition to this, there shall be an incredibly special guest making an?appearance on the night.
Representing the Audio Doughnuts imprint are Funkitek sound creators R1 Ryders, Rinse FM’s house and funky prime-timer Shox, Grime’s man of the moment Teeza back-to-back with minimal house & experimental producer Korus, For The Win founders Goli & Ashburner and – named one of the most exciting new artists on Audio Doughnuts – Widowmaker, all alongside a whole host of other talented names.
After hosting two ram-jammed ‘one-in-one-out’ nights at East London’s Rhythm Factory, Audio Doughnuts will be hosting an expansive night of the world’s best electronic music inside the walls of Counter Culture complete on a world beating 80k Funktion One sound system complete with full live AV light show. From a label dealing exclusively in big moves comes their biggest move to date.
Tickets will sell out in advance, though there will be a limited number of tickets available for purchase on the door. If you don’t manage to get your tickets in advance, early arrival would be highly recommended.
DSOL in a fortnight’s time sees the boys head to a new venue in Dalston – the Nest. We can’t wait to hit up this venue, how sick does this sound?!
Imagine the sound system of Fabric (Martin Audio) in a 350 capacity venue nestled on the high street on one of the most fashionable areas of East London, Dalston.
Hit up the Facebook event page for info on all the artists performing, like the new DSOL fan page to keep up to date with the run of events and to grab a £2 discount on entry price. Do not miss this one; we were at the last DSOL when Seven played and it went off. You’ve been warned!
Lastly, we’re very proud to launch the first proper FKOF competition in conjunction with the very lovely folk over at The People’s Music Awards.
Following the success of the last two years, The People’s Music Awards, return with their 3rd annual awards ceremony, in association with bing, celebrating the accomplishments and music of the best new bands and artists of 2011 from around the globe, as voted for by you, The People.
Hosted by Eddy Temple-Morris (XFM), Michelle Forde, Fiona Ryan and Rachel Doherty, and being broadcast in prime time on Eurochannel, this year’s awards ceremony will see the finalists perform live and the winners presented with their awards in front of the music industry, the press and The People.
Increasingly cementing its reputation within the music establishment as a leader in the world of new and unsigned music, this year’s awards are officially supported by AIM (Association of Independent Musicians), MPG (Music Producers Guild), Unsigned Guide, UK Music Jobs and Secret Garden Party.
The People’s Music Awards promises to be an absolutely awesome night at one of London’s finest venues, Scala at Kings Cross, and we’ve got a pair of tickets to give away (tickets are otherwise £20) for the event!
You can win the tickets by becoming a fan of the FatKidOnFire Facebook page and liking the post about The People’s Music Awards. It’s that simple! Entries to the ticket giveaway close at 11am on Thursday (16th June). We’ll announce the winner (along with details of how to collect the tickets) by 1pm next Friday (17th June).
Alternatively, you can purchase tickets for The People’s Music Awards from their website.
Peace, love and respect.
