It’s been a good month for competitions here on FatKidOnFire (if you’ve yet to enter the #FKOFforyourMindstep comp, you’ve got until Wednesday) – and it’s now time for another…
At the end of July, Budapest’s Matt-U is releasing his debut EP on Pressed Records; the mighty ‘Hammerhead‘ featuring Kyza Smirnoff and Marger backed with ‘Danger‘ featuring Foreign Beggars’s Orifice Vulgatron, Kyza Smirnoff, Marger and Illaman.
“With support from the scene’s leading artists (including Skream, Benga, Mary Anne Hobbs, N-Type, Kryptic Minds, Youngsta and Distance) and exclusive playlisting on Skream & Benga’s BBC Radio1 show, this long awaited EP is worth every minute of your attention.
“Matt-U’s ‘Hammerhead’ EP explores the depths of deep dark dubstep in 2013; incorporating eerie ambiances, intricate bass structures and intellectual lyricism.”
To celebrate this ridiculously large release, we’ve teamed up with Medison and the rest of the Pressed Records family to give three fans a whole stack of awesomeness:
- 3 x 12” limited edition test presses of Matt-U’s ‘Hammerhead’ EP
- Guestlist (plus one) to Pressed Records & Innamind Recordings’ brand new club night Exile on 18th July showcasing some of the label’s best talent.

We’ll be choosing 3 lucky winners on 7/07/13 (two weeks yesterday). Good luck!
I’ve been listening to the EP since Medison sent me it last week. We’re only halfway through 2013 but the Hammerhead EP might just be one of my favourite releases we’ve had so far this year. The vinyl EP consists of the title track, ‘Danger’ and both instrumentals, while digital adds the two radio edits to the bundle. The instrumentals are more than capable of holding their own – testament to Matt-U’s production skill – but both versions (vocal and instrumentals) are going to destroy the dance. Reloads aplenty guaranteed!
And if you’ve not yet seen the official video for ‘Hammerhead’, check it out below. It’s easily one of the best grime videos I’ve seen in a long while; quality visuals for a quality production!
Peace, love and respect.
